Friedrichsplatz around the Water Tower is considered one of the most important self-contained Art Nouveau ensembles in Germany. The ornamental grounds laid out around 1900 captivate with symmetrical arcade buildings, artful fountains, water features and lush rose beds. When the fountains are illuminated in the evening, the square unfolds a special atmosphere. As a green festive ground in the centre of the city, it is a popular meeting point and the venue of events. Together with the Water Tower and the nearby Kunsthalle, Friedrichsplatz forms a stately flagship of Mannheim.
