Mannheim Palace
Mannheim Palace was built from 1720 onwards as the residence of the Prince-Electors of the Palatinate and, with its vast façade, ranks among the largest Baroque palaces in Europe. For decades it was the political and cultural centre of the Electoral Palatinate, until the residence was moved to Munich. Today the University of Mannheim occupies large parts of the complex, while the palace museum displays opulent halls, paintings and courtly craftsmanship. The Court of Honour opens out impressively towards the city centre and forms the prelude to the city of squares.
