Jungbusch

From harbour district to creative quarter: hardly any part of Mannheim has changed as much as the Jungbusch on the connecting canal. The Pop Academy Baden-Württemberg, the Musikpark start-up centre and numerous bars, clubs and studios make the quarter the pulsing heart of Mannheim's music and nightlife scene - the basis for the UNESCO City of Music title the city has held since 2014. Maritime heritage, multicultural life and subculture meet here in a very small area: warehouses and cranes of the old trading harbour still stand at the water, while a few streets on there are corner shops, snack bars and pubs. The district is small enough to walk in a good hour, but it comes into its own in the evening. During the day the walk to the harbour is worth it, with views across the basin to the industrial plants.
