Rheinau
Mannheim's southernmost district on the Rhine with the Rheinau harbour and lido.
Harbour industry on one side, a bathing lake on the other: Rheinau in the far south lies directly on the Rhine and unites both in a small area. The Rheinau harbour is a significant transhipment point with basins, cranes and rail access, while the Strandbad Rheinau and its lake draw swimmers and sunbathers in summer. The district is made up of several sub-quarters, each with its own character, from the older residential areas to newer estates, and is well connected to the city center and the surrounding region by S-Bahn. Plenty of greenery by the water, allotment gardens and the riverside setting give Rheinau its relaxed, water-facing character. For visitors it is worth the trip above all in summer, when the lake becomes a half-day destination outside the city center.
