Oststadt
A villa quarter with the magnificent Friedrichsplatz and the Luisenpark.
Grand Art Nouveau and Wilhelminian villas, quiet streets and two of the best-known addresses in the city: the Oststadt is considered Mannheim's most distinguished quarter. At its centre lies Friedrichsplatz with the Water Tower and its ornamental fountains, one of the finest Art Nouveau ensembles in Germany, illuminated in the evening and especially inviting in summer. Directly adjoining, Luisenpark - one of the city's most popular parks - offers wide lawns, the Gondoletta boats and the telecommunications tower. Add the National Theatre and the Rosengarten as a congress and concert venue. Anyone staying overnight in Mannheim will find the highest concentration of hotels in the Oststadt and around Friedrichsplatz, not least because congress guests can reach everything on foot from here. For visitors the quarter is therefore almost automatically the first stop.
