Personally run rather than a chain: the Central-Hotel is a family-run city hotel in a central position between the main station and the Squares. Expect a manageable house with breakfast and direct contact with the hosts, not the standardised routine of a large brand. For travellers who simply need a clean, well-located place to sleep without extras, that is often the better fit - and usually the cheaper one. The pedestrian zone, the Water Tower and the station are each a few minutes away, which makes Mannheim easy to cover without a car. If you expect a spa, a restaurant or meeting rooms on site, one of the larger houses on Friedrichsplatz will serve you better.
