Coffee has been roasted in the Squares for more than a century, and Helder & Leeuwen continues that tradition as an independent Mannheim roastery. The shop sits in Q5, roasting takes place at a separate site in the south of the city, and the company also runs a café in the Squares where its own roasts can be tasted on the spot. Alongside the counter there are beans to take away and coffee seminars. For visitors the roastery makes a good stop while strolling the Planken - and one of the few places to take a genuinely local product home.
