After a comprehensive redesign, the axis presents itself in a modern guise, with wide pathways, trees and seating. Shops, department stores, cafés and restaurants line the route, making the Planken the most important shopping mile in the region. The tram connects the axis with the rest of the city. As a pulsating lifeline, it is the commercial heart of the city center.
